Yes, it’s almost upon us. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without carols. As a child I enjoyed singing them. Even after all these years, when I go to Midnight Mass at church, I always make an effort to sing them, because at least they were more uplifting (to me) than most hymns.
All this week, I put up some of my personal favourites. First up, it’s Silent Night.
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth “
To me, it’s one of those carols that I always remember the first verse. It also reminds me of when I was in primary school, our class had to learn to sing the carol in German. It was a tough ask, but we managed it when we had to perform it on the night.
Another carol tomorrow.
