You can tell when it’s the silly Summer season (in the UK at least), when stupid stories like this one appear in even one of the broadsheet newspapers.
The Guardian, and other papers, reported that West Midlands police have ordered their officers to wear appropriate underwear before going on duty.
The new rules on underwear dress, designed to avoid the dreaded VPL (visible panty line), has angered many in the rank and file. However, a spokesperson for the force said: ” All supervisors, at whatever level they are in the organisation, have a clear mandate to challenge inappropriate dress”.
Is there any truth in this story, and why the press gave it so much coverage?
