The Daily Mail newspaper attracted some controversy when it published an extremely offensive letter about the World Cup TV coverage.
The letter states this:
“Wouldn’t it be great if TV coverage of the World Cup was limited to England’s games, those of hosts South Africa, and of the tournament’s ‘big guns’.
“Then we would be spared the ordeal of having to sit through a match between Bongo Bongoland and the Former Soviet Republic of Bulimia and other meaningless events.”
More on this via Tabloid Watch, and Angry Mob.
Whose decision was it to publish such a disgustingĀ and racist letter? Did they thinkĀ it was funny?
This is unfortunately, typical of the misinformation and lies that the Daily Mail, its co-conspirator Daily Express, their little siblings The Sun and Daily Star, and most of the national newspapers tend to print.
Reading this put the gloss off a great start to the tournament when hosts South Africa drew with Mexico.
Or in Mailspeak:
(Prawns were the offensive term the humans referred to the aliens in the movie District 9)
