Immigration minister Phil Woolas was seen basically sh*tting himself after seeing actress Joanna Lumley demand assurances from him over the plight of the Gurkhas.
After initially refusing the right of retired Gurkhas, who fought for the Army, to settle into Britain, but the recent embarrassing vote in parliament effectively forced a u-turn. It was great having a laugh at Woolas’ expense.
This routinely happens with this Labour government. They put out a policy, the media and vested interests cry foul, then they are forced to retreat and change the policy. However, there have been a few exceptions to this, including the decision to invade Iraq, and the ongoing plan to impose an ID card scheme. Neither of these were wanted by the majority of British people.
Does anybody in (what’s left of ) the Labour party know what they stand for now? Answers on a virtual postcard, please….
