It’s enough to make you either laugh or weep. On top of inflation-busting fare increases comes the annual post-Christmas disruption to the UK rail network.
On top of the usual problems with the cold weather, train services from London’s Euston station have been disrupted for several days after overhead cables hit a train. Although some services have resumed after earlier cancellations, there have been the inevitable delays.
Why on earth do rail users put up with this nonsense? They are paying more and more and yet they are getting a continually poor service. There were the usual apologies from Network Rail, and the train companies involved, but where was the government in all this? Has any minister spoken out on this yet?
The problems of the rail network are symptoms of a stop-start public transport policy in Britain. We can have a great rail system if we put our minds to it, but as usual, we’re just too lazy to do anything about it. We moan and we cuss, yet we just can’t be bothered….
