The government announced in parliament that they are sending yet more troops to Afghanistan. Defence secretary Des Browne said that around 230 troops will be deployed as soon as possible. This will bring the numbers in that country to around 8,000.
Why are our troops still in Afghanistan? Why are they still in Iraq? There is no political or moral mission to keep them there. This announcement is just to boost the Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s shattered ego. This so-called ‘war on terrorism’ has become a farce, and pressure should be put on the government to bring our troops home.
In a separate, but similar development, Gordon Brown and US President George W Bush are once again threatening Iran over its nuclear programme. They will take appropriate action if Iran ‘continues to ignore’ United Nations resolutions. Yeah, right…. Britain and the US have ignored the UN for years… they desperately want to attack that country, but the continuing outcry over the situation in neighbouring Iraq, plus the lack of troops on the ground has prevented them from doing so… for now. Don’t be surprised if a war is started there before Bush’s term in the White House is over.
