The Labour party has suffered heavy electoral losses in the local government contests last night.
The Conservatives were the big winners, taking 44 per cent of the votes cast, compared to the Liberal Democrats’ 25 per cent. Labour finished third with just 24 per cent, losing over 300 council seats- easily their worst peformance for forty years. To make things worse, Conservative Boris Johnson will almost certainly be London’s new mayor, beating Labour incumbent Ken Livingstone.
This will serve Labour right. They have caused enough problems in the UK for the last eleven years. As one political commentator said, “The writing is on the wall for Gordon Brown, and the Labour party.”
Roll on to the next general election…. and good riddance to rotting rubbish!!!!
