There was a collective sense of outrage from many sportswriters (!) over the decision by new England manager Fabio Capello not to include David Beckham in his squad for the forthcoming friendly matches.
They’ve criticised the decision not to allow Beckham a chance to win his 100th cap for his country. That’s from the same sportswriters who criticised him whenever he played badly for both club and country. To be honest, does it matter whether he does so or not? What is important now, particularly that England are not in Euro2008 this summer (some say thank goodness), is that Capello is given the chance to develop a good national side that in future will be able to compete with the best in the world.
