The UK’s so-called “Great Tennis Hope” Andy Murray crashed out of the Australian Open tennis championship at the first hurdle.
Murray, ranked ninth in the world, was beaten by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is ranked 38th 7-5, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 in yet another humiliation for British sport. Here’s what he had to say at the post-match interview:
“I think I’ve showed by winning four tournaments in the last few years that I’ve got the potential to challenge for Grand Slams in the future.”
EH????
“I don’t think it’s the end of the world. I wasn’t completely outplayed.”
What did you say? You were absolute rubbish. You were beaten by three sets to one.
“I didn’t feel physically I was the worst player, but I hit a couple of silly shots here and there.”
There you have it. After another sporting humiliation, another British sportsman makes yet more excuses for his poor performance. It’s enough to make most people sick!
