The head of MI5 security service Jonathan Evans claims that around 2000 people are being seen as a threat to UK’s national secruity because they were seen to be engaging in terrorist activity. He also claims that children as young as 15 were being recruited by the likes of al-Qaeda to plan further bombings throughout the country.
This analysis sounds very frightening… but haven’t we been here before? There has been countless warnings in the past about the ongoing terror threat, but what should we be doing to reduce that threat? We want the government to openly admit that the increase in terrorist activity is due to the actions of the UK and US governments in both Iraq and Afghanistan, then we need an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of troops from those countries. In the UK, Prime Minister Gordon Brown should go on television to openly apologise to the people over the war, and plan to engage with the Muslim communities affected by it. An independent public inquiry should be held into the government’s conduct that led to the war and a total repeal of the currently repressive anti-terror laws.
It’s that simple. Will Brown do it? Unfortunately not. It seems the real threat to national security is our Prime Minister. He… and the government… must be stopped.
