Tennis players could ‘strike’

Some of the world’s top tennis players are said to be considering taking the unusual step of ‘going on strike‘ over their tournament schedule.

Many have complained of having to play too many tournaments over the year. Despite the fact that they are handsomely paid, they will consider a boycott if talks with the tennis governing bodies in China next month fail.

Bin collection row is a load of rubbish

With all the other more important things to think about in the world, am I the only person who is completely sick to the death of the row over fortnightly refuse collections?

At present, more than half of all local councils in England have switched to alternate weekly collections, where regular rubbish is picked up one week and recycling the next. This has caused a lot of resentment from many members of the public, and some national newspapers have backed campaigns to get the weekly collections brought back.

Overrated football club gets relegated…so what?

Manchester United secured a record 19th top-flight title, a massive achievement. Local rivals City win the FA Cup. Both genuine successes, and worthy of congratulations from the sports press.

Yet nearly all the news has been dominated in the last few days by the problems at West Ham United, who were relegated from the Premier League after they lost to Wigan on Sunday.

The Taliban’s Great Escape

The Afghan government must have been extremely embarrassed by this.

Several hundred inmates had successfully escaped from a prison in Kandahar through a tunnel that had been dug from outside the jail.

Press furore over Royal Wedding guest list

Oh, dear… when it comes to whipping up a collective hypocritical mountain out of a molehill, the British press are experts by a country mile.

In this case it’s who was omitted from William and Kate’s Royal wedding guest list. Apparently, it includes many heads of state and heads of other lesser known royal families, some have been involved in seriousĀ  human rights abuses against their own people.
