‘Entryism’ into Labour is nothing new
Many parts of the media, and the blogosphere are getting their knickers in a twist over allegations that a radical Islamist group has infiltrated sections of the Labour Party in East London.
Channel 4 TV‘s Dispatches programme on Monday investigated claims that members of the Islamic forum of Europe have been able to get into positions of power and influence within the party in the borough of Tower Hamlets. Several members of the ruling group on the council allegedly belong to the group.
I gave a huge yawn at this. Obviously I don’t live in Tower Hamlets so I don’t know the situation at first hand, but what many people do know for a certain fact is that the Labour Party has always been vulnerable to infiltration in the past, whether it’s from former Soviet agents to hard-left supporters. Their council groups have always been split into factions, all of them continually fight for control of public services.
I’m amazed that commentators seem so worried about a small group of militant nut-jobs who in reality have very little support within the Muslim communities. This is old news, used to divert attention from the real issue of public-spending cuts, which if implemented, will lead to service reductions, and the whole nation will suffer.
It’s very depressing that these so-called revelations will continue to be used as a stick by the government to beat Muslim communities with.
