Well, it had to happen. By the end of the week, Setanta, the company which tried to take on the dominant British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) for sports broadcasting rights now faces calling in the receivers, according to media reports.
It’s not just the fact that the company’s backers have overreached themselves over sports rights without asking themselves how they were going to pay their dues. As I have previously mentioned, here, here, here, and here, the way they broadcast sports events are a complete shambles. Also, their business model were based on projections that were hopelessly optimistic.
Sports fans have already been short-changed by Setanta. It’s time for them to hand over the contracts to Sky, and walk away. Now.
