Whining football star should grow up!

A Premiership footballer has vowed never to play for his team again after his manager mis-pronounced his surname in a recent post-match interview.

Charles N’Zogbia, who plays for Newcastle United, has accused the current manager Joe Kinnear of insulting him, after the latter mispronounced his surname, ‘Insomnia’ after the recent league defeat by Manchester City.

Kinnear responded by saying: “Ok, I got a little tongue-tied, but if I had a pound for every time I’ve mis-pronounced a player’s name down the years, then I’d be a very wealthy man indeed.”

N’Zogbia, at this moment in time, is behaving like a stupid cry-baby, and has probably made himself a target for the Toon Army boo-boys. Ok, his surname got mis-pronounced, so what? With all the other more important  problems Newcastle have got right now, it would be better if he just laughed off the incident, grow up and move on.

Government ordered to release 'Iraq War' papers

The government has failed in its bid to keep documents relating to cabinet meetings over the Iraq War in 2003 from public disclosure.

Ministers have been ordered to release minutes of cabinet meetings held by the former Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Information Tribunal had upheld an earlier decision made by the Information Commissioner over whether  details of the meetings held on March 13 and 17 regarding the legality of the invasion of Iraq. Ministers had tried to block continued requests to see the files, but this landmark ruling means they will be forced to release them to the public domain. The government is considering appealing against the decision.

Why is the present PM Gordon Brown determined to withold the documents like his predecessor? Is it because he was allegedly involved in the same meetings? If it was known that he opposed the war, why did he then go along with Blair’s lies?

This whole affair stinks, and those responsible in the current and last administration need to be held to account for this huge scandal.

Iceland's politicians' honesty puts ours to shame

The economic crisis in Iceland has claimed their government. The current ruling coalition who governed the country resigned as the financial problems have continued to bite leading to increasing indebtedness, rising unemployment and regular public protests.

At least our friends over there have been open and honest to admit that they have failed. This is in complete contrast to our government. We are facing the same problems as they are, but they have continually refused to take any responsibility for the problems they are causing.

Despite repeated calls to cut back on public spending, ministers have announced another bail out of our major banks. In other unrelated news, several former Labour MPs have been caught up in yet another row over funding sleaze. There will probably be another police investigation, but nothing, as usual, will lead to any of them being charge for any offence.

Yet in all this melee, our so-called Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who should be leading from the front, goes missing…. as usual.

When are the British people going to demand that we have people who wish to represent us to be open, honest and trustworthy? As usual, don’t hold your breath.

Obama opens his presidency by ordering the closure of Guantanamo Bay

Now that we have finally seen the back of George W Bush, the new President Barack Obama had made a blistering start by ordering plans to close the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison within one year.

This prison has long been a massive boil in American politics of recent times and it needed to be lanced. It may not halt the threat of more terrorist outrages in the west immediately, but it could herald the start of  the cooling of tensions between the Muslim and the Western worlds. This should also see the end of this so-called war on terror, which many people now see in hindsight as a flawed political strategy.

The world is now resting on your shoulders, Mr President. Do not waste it like Bush did.

New York air crash- everyone survives!

Even in this sometimes very dark and depressing world, what happened in New York City proves that sometimes, miracles do happen. Here’s a sideways view of the crash from The Daily Mash.
